ITINERARY AND HIGHLIGHTS OF JOURNEY TO 3 COUNTRIES – RUANDA, UGANDA & TANZANIA

Day 1 Day of arrival Rwanda – Kigali

Our driver will meet you at Kigali airport and take you to your hotel. Depending on the time of day you will have the opportunity to visit the Genocide Memorial where you will get an insight into the recent history of Rwanda. Alternatively you can visit one of the lively markets or the Kandt Museum.

Day 2 Kigali – Virunga Mountains

After breakfast you drive on well developed roads towards the Virunga Mountains. Here you get an impression of where the name “Land of a Thousand Hills” comes from. You drive through small villages, past coffee and tea plantations and enjoy the view of the lush vegetation and the ever changing landscape. In the afternoon you will reach Ruhengeri at the foot of the Virunga Mountains.

Day 3 Virunga Mountains – Golden Monkey Tracking

In the morning you drive to the starting point of the Golden Monkey Tracking. In groups with a maximum of 8 visitors we will go to the Vulcanoes National Park. Worldwide only here in the border area between Rwanda, Uganda and the Congo with about 4500 specimens there is the possibility to see the mystical looking golden monkeys. The habitat of the animals are the bamboo forests at the foot of the Virunga Mountains, the ascent is comparatively easy.

Day 4 Virunga Mountains – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

A particularly impressive scenic drive is scheduled for today. After breakfast we will head towards Uganda. After crossing the border we will continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Along winding roads with great views of the green terraced mountains and Lake Bunyonyi with its 19 islands you will reach the starting point for your gorilla tracking.

Day 5 Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Gorilla Tracking

Today is one of the highlights of her tour through Uganda! The Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is home to both mountain gorillas and chimpanzees! This is the only forest in Africa where you can see both monkey species. As you advance along the wooded slopes, winding vines and bamboo plants into the densely overgrown jungle, you will learn many interesting facts about the Ugandan giants. Your experienced guide will show you traces of the gorillas’ past activities, such as nests, dung and nibbled bamboo shoots. Soon you will face the strong, almost human-looking mountain gorilla! While the monkeys go about their daily business undisturbed, you approach them very quietly until you are only three to four meters away from them. You watch the gorillas and the gorillas will watch you. Gorilla tracking: 2-7 h Gorilla observation: 1 h

Day 6 Bwindi Impenetrable – Lake Mburo National Park

The day begins with a hearty breakfast, then you start your drive to Lake Mburo National Park, the second smallest in Uganda. Numerous rocks and hills with small valleys alternate. You undertake a game drive, typical for the park are zebras and antelopes together with long horned Ankole cattle. Besides these animals you will also see giraffes, hippos, impalas, reed-bucks and water-bucks.

Day 7 Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo National Park is one of the two parks in Uganda where it is permitted to go on a walking safari. You go on an exploration tour with an experienced ranger, footprints and animal excrement’s tell you which animals are nearby. In the afternoon you undertake an extensive game drive in the park. There is also the opportunity for a boat safari on Lake Mburo.

Day 8 Lake Mburo National Park – Bukoba

Today you will start in the direction of Bukoba on the shore of Lake Victoria. The route leads through a hilly landscape past coffee and banana plantations to the Tanzanian border. After crossing the border you will get your first impressions of Tanzania and arrive in Bukoba in the late afternoon.

Day 9 Bukoba – flight over Lake Victoria

This morning our driver will take you to Bukoba Airport, you start your flight over Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa. After landing you will be met by our Tanzanian team and you will drive to the Serengeti.

Day 10 Serengeti National Park, Game Drive

This day begins in the middle of the Serengeti, the most famous national park in the world. In the savanna you can see giraffes, zebras, antelopes, hippos, elephants and about 500 bird species. The Serengeti is full of life – enjoy the impressive atmosphere. The game drive can be a full day or also take place in the morning or afternoon.

Day 11 Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater

If you like, there’s an early morning game drive on the program. After a cup of coffee and a small refreshment we start. The first sun-rays cast long shadows. It is the best time for good photos! Often you can see hyenas, active hippos, or catch a pride of lions having breakfast. Experience the unique sunrise in the savanna landscape and the clear air as it is rarely found elsewhere. After brunch we will go on a game drive again and with some photo breaks towards the Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 12 Ngorongoro Crater, Game Drive

Early risers can enjoy the spectacular sunrise over the crater. Then drive down the steep slope to the crater floor of Ngorongoro. Keep your camera handy at all times, because nowhere is the animal density higher than here. The crater, which is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, is home to almost all kinds of East African wildlife. With a bit of luck you might see the endangered black rhino, which is a member of the Big Five, along with buffalo, lion, elephant and leopard!

Day 13 Mto wa Mbu – Lake Manyara

After a hearty breakfast on the lodge terrace with a panoramic view, you drive to Mto wa Mbu. The small town at the entrance to Lake Manyara offers a source of income for various peoples. Together with your guide you will visit the market or the salt lake Lake Manyara. A game drive in Lake Manyara National Park can be booked for an additional fee.

Day 14 Departure day Kilimanjaro Int. Airport, Tanzania

Depending on the departure time, our driver will take you to Kilimanjaro airport in time.
