Itinerary and Highlights of Tour around Kilimanjaro

Day 1 Arrival Day

You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and our driver will bring you to your Hotel in Moshi.

Day 2 Moshi – Marangu

You will be picked up from your hotel in Moshi and drive to the mountain village of Marangu, where the first climb approach to climb Mount Kilimanjaro started. Together with your guide, you will hike through lush countryside where the houses seem hidden between coffee and banana trees. You will head to the traditional Wachagga House, where you can see how simply the Wachagga lived just a few decades ago.

Day 3 Marangu – Lake Chala

In the morning you will drive to Lake Chala. It is a crater lake that belongs half in Tanzania and half in Kenya. The water is fed by underground springs from Kilimanjaro. After 30 minutes’ walk down to the lakeshore you can take a swim in the magical blue water. Alternatively, you can relax at the lodge, watch birds and if you are lucky see elephants at the waterhole or go for a walk in the surroundings.

Day 4 Lake Chala – Kambi ya Tembo

After breakfast you will drive about 1 hour to the 185.000-acre large nature reserve in West Kilimanjaro. The savannah with Kilimanjaro in the background provides an excellent setting for your holiday photos and great game drive. In the small lodge you can enjoy the view from the restaurant towards the Amoseli National Park and the Namanga Mountains.

Day 5 Kambi ya Tembo – Olpopongi

It takes about 2 hours’ drive to “Olpopongi Maasai Village “, where you will be welcomed with a traditional “Maasai Dance “. During the visit you will be guided through the “Maasai Museum“ where you will learn in which age groups they are divided, which norms have value, how hierarchies work, what items are used in traditional ceremonies and what clothes correspond to the ideal of beauty. Before driving to your lodge you have the opportunity to join a bushwalk to try some healing plants and the Maasai toothbrush.

Day 6 Olpopongi – Ndarakwai

The day starts early. One of the best African experiences is to walk through the savannah and watch wild animals. Outside the car they seem so much bigger. Together with your guide you might become witness to some great wilderness cinema. Learn about the flora and fauna of this area, before driving back to Moshi.

Day 7 Departure Day

Depending on the time of departure, after breakfast our driver guide will drop you off at the airport or you can start another travel package. Also there are several day tours offered from Moshi (Coffee Tour, Biking Tour in the Sugar Plantations, Lake Challa Tour – please book in advance).
