Itinerary and highlights of Travel Experience East Africa
Day 1 Arrival day, Kenya – Nairobi
Our driver will meet you at Nairobi airport and take you to your hotel in the most developed city in East Africa. Depending on the time of day, you will have the opportunity to go on a game drive in Nairobi National Park or a city tour.
Day 2 Nairobi – Maasai Mara
After breakfast you will start your 6 hour drive into the Maasai Mara. Alternatively, a domestic flight can be booked for an extra charge. Around noon you will have a break at the viewpoint of the Rift Valley. The view is particularly impressive. In the late afternoon you reach your lodge.
Day 3 Maasai Mara National Park
Today a full day game drive in Maasai Mara National Park is on the program. As part of an overall conservation area, the Maasai Mara joins the northern Serengeti. Especially in the months July to September lions, elephants, leopards, zebras, giraffes and the large herds of wildebeest and zebras can be seen here. The Maasai Mara is Kenya’s most animal rich reserve. After your return to the lodge in the afternoon you will enjoy the pool and the view over the savanna.
Day 4 Maasai Mara National Park
Today you start at sunrise and after a small snack for another game drive. In the early morning the animals are particularly active and you have the opportunity for extensive wildlife watching, also along the Mara River. Every year about 1.2 million wildebeests and 750,000 zebras gather on its banks to embark on an 800 km journey. It is the bravest animals that first throw themselves into the river, the others follow. A spectacle which is incomparable. After your return to the lodge you will have an extensive brunch and in the afternoon you have the opportunity for another game drive.
Day 5 Maasai Mara NP – Serengeti National Park
After breakfast you will set off towards the Tanzanian border. You will still have the opportunity to take photos and observe animals. Around noon you will reach the border. After completing the formalities you will be welcomed by our Tanzanian team. Swahili is spoken in both countries. The sound is nevertheless different. You will get first impressions of Tanzania and reach your lodge on the edge of the Serengeti in the afternoon.
Day 6 Serengeti National Park
During your breakfast you can enjoy the fascinating expanse of the Serengeti. Today’s destination is Seronera, the center of the Serengeti. Wide savanna landscapes with hills and some watercourses alternate. Elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, zebras, wildebeests and a variety of antelope species live in the Serengeti all year round. Our driver will explain the diversity of wildlife to you. Enjoy the time at this special place which Bernhard Grzimek also loved so much. In the late afternoon you will reach your lodge and enjoy the evening in the Serengeti.
Day 7 Serengeti National Park
After a cup of coffee and a small refreshment the morning game drive begins. The first sun rays cast long shadows. It is the best time for good photos! Often you can see lions having breakfast and watch the hyenas trying to get a piece of it. Also jackals try to eat their food because there is not food every day. Near the watering hole colorful birds shine in the sunlight. They also like to sit on the back of buffaloes and elephants – they let themselves be carried as far as the journey goes. Back at the lodge there is a brunch and in the afternoon another game drive.
Day 8 Serengeti National Park – Lake Victoria
After an extensive breakfast you start your journey to Mwanza. It goes through the west of the Serengeti, a remote area with beautiful scenery. Depending on the season, the west of the Serengeti is populated with herds of animals as far as the eye can see. If you are lucky, you will also see wild dogs off the track. In the late morning you will leave the Serengeti and the journey continues through some small villages, passing meadows and fields until you reach your hotel in Mwanza on Lake Victoria in the afternoon.
Day 9 Mwanza – Lake Mburo National Park
In the early morning our driver will take you to the airport in Mwanza and you will fly from there over Lake Victoria to Bukoba where you will be met by our Ugandan driver/guide. The drive to the Ugandan border takes about 1.5 hours. After completing the formalities, you will drive through the green, hilly landscape of southern Uganda to Lake Mburo NP which you will reach in the afternoon.
Day 10 Lake Mburo NP – Bwindi National Park
Lake Mburo National Park is one of the two national parks in Uganda where it is permitted to go on a walking safari and where zebras can be seen. After breakfast you will go on an exploration tour with an experienced ranger. Footprints and animal excrement will tell you which animals are nearby. It is especially exciting to see the wild animals from this close up. In the late morning you set off for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Day 11 Bwindi Impenetrable Park – Gorilla Tracking
Both mountain gorillas and chimpanzees live in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The experienced guide will show you traces of previous gorilla activities. Then you will suddenly come face to face with the powerful, almost human-looking mountain gorilla! You can observe how the animals go about their daily activities undisturbed. Be especially quiet and avoid jerky movements. Enjoy these unforgettable moments with the gorilla group.
Day 12 Bwindi Impenetrable Park – Kampala
After breakfast you will start your journey to Kampala and of course we will stop at the equator for a souvenir photo. You spend the evening in your lodge, a small oasis in the middle of the lively city.
Day 13 Kampala – Entebbe, Uganda
