Itinerary and Highlights of Kilimanjaro Marathon & Climb
Day 1 Arrival Day
You will be picked up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and drive to the hotel in Moshi. You will stay in a beautiful lodge.
Day 2 Moshi – Kilimanjaro Climb
From Moshi you will go with your team to Machame Gate. After all luggage is stowed, the ascent begins later in the morning. After about four to five hours of march through Regenwald and partly Heideland you reach the Machame Camp in 3100 meters. From here you have a wonderful view of the Shiraspeaks and the Kibo. Walking time: 6-7h Route: 9km Climbing: 1220m
Day 3 Kilimanjaro Climb
After breakfast, you leave the rainforest, follow an ascending path through a valley and continue your way along steep descents. From there you can see the three peaks of Kilimanjaro: Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira. After four to five hours you will pass the “Shira Cathedral” and after a short march you will reach the camp on the Shira Plateau at 3840 m. Walking time: 5-6h Route: 7km Ascent: 835m
Day 4 Kilimanjaro Climb
This six-hour stage is designed for active acclimatization as you climb slowly to the Lavatower (about 4600 m) on this tour and then descend to Barranco Camp. Enjoy the grandiose scenery through lush vegetation and the view of the vast southern glaciers of the Kibo.
Walking time: 6-7h Route: 10km Ascent: 700m Descent: 600m
Day 5 Kilimanjaro Climb
Today the stage can begin a bit later. While the others are already eager to pack, enjoy the warming sunrays. After a relaxing breakfast, the one-hour section of Barranco Wall goes up. The view into the Karanga Valley is stunning. After a short rest, the path leads slightly downhill, then uphill again. The landscape is characterized by rivers and stone meadows. After about three hours you will see the Karanga Camp behind the valley of the same name.
Walking time: 8-9h Route: 15km Ascent: 250m Descent: 175m
Day 6 Kilimanjaro Climb
Even today’s approximately four-hour stage can be started in peace. The easy climb will quickly lead you to the right riding rhythm. The gigantic Karanga valley opens up to the left. In the meantime, the view of the south-eastern ceilings and the Rebmann Glacier is free. You will soon be able to recognize the etapenziel. You cross a last valley and finally the steep ascending meters to the Barafu Camp. Spectacular is the sudden view of the 5100 meter high battlements of the Mawenzi. The Barafu Camp, the goal of the stage, is elevated on the back of a volcano. Walking time: 3-4h Route: 4km
Day 7 Kilimanjaro Climb
Around midnight, you will start to the peak. The steep, steep ascent to the Stella Point (5745 M), which is located on the crater’s edge, leads across small rubble. The climb is technically not difficult, but mainly because of the high altitude quite tedious. Here you can enjoy a fantastic sunrise. After 150 meters you reach the highest point of Africa, the Uhuru Peak (5895 m). The descent leads via Stella Point to the Millennium Camp.
Walking time: 11-13h Route: 16km Ascent: 1255m Descent: 2105m
Day 8 Kilimanjaro Climb
The last day at Kilimanjaro National Park does not require much effort. The trail leads through dense rainforest. After a five-hour march downhill, you reach the Mweka Gate. After handing over the summit we bring you back to Moshi. Walking time: 4-5h Route: 13km Descent: 2110m
