Itinerary and Highlights of the Honeymoon Safari Package

Day 1 Arrival Day Kilimanjaro – Kingori Savanna

After the long flight you arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport and will be picked up by our driver. After about 45 minutes you will reach the Kingori Savannah and the Maasai. Today the East African nomadic people live in the middle of the upheaval to settle down. The Massai are proud of their tradition and hold on to it. To all who are curious to learn more, they proudly show what they accomplish in their everyday life and what it means to live in the traditional Boma (huts). Visitors are greeted by the Massai on the village square with a passionate welcome dance. In their traditional shoukas, decorated with pearl necklaces and a song.

Day 2 Stay at Maasai Lodge

The Kingori Plain offers a fantastic view of the two highest mountains in Tanzania. Here you feel right at home as a visitor. The Maasai are not pushy but friendly and helpful if you need anything. On a walk together with a Maasai guide you will learn which spices are traditionally used for cooking and from which traditional medicine is extracted. You’ll also learn what age groups the Maasai are divided into and why a termite mound is so necessary for building a house. The day will be rounded off with a campfire as you listen to the stories of the Maasai elders as you swim more and more understanding for the other culture and their rituals.

Day 3 Flight to the Serengeti

Today you leave the quiet and colorful world of the Maasai and go with your driver to the airport. From here it goes with a small airplane to the 15,000 km² large protected area of the Serengeti. A variety of landscapes alternate. There are endless grass plains with island mountains, savanna-like areas with isolated acacias, trees and gallery forests along the rivers. With around three million larger mammals, the Serengeti is the world’s richest wildlife ecosystem, and the Serengeti is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the middle of this boundless beauty, your driver awaits you to start your first game drive in the Serengeti National Park.

Day 4 Extensive game drive in the Serengeti

Excitedly you start with the Jeep to the morning game drive. In the early hours the animals are very active. Lions, hippos, hyenas, antelopes and many young animals – all are on their way. Just like in a dream, the silhouettes of the acacia trees stand out before the first glowing rays of sunlight. After many photo stops and eventful pictures you are ready for an extensive breakfast, but still not fed up with the experiences in the “endless plain” as the Serengeti is called in the Masai language. There is enough to discover in the Serengeti National Park, which is about the size of Northern Ireland. Exciting what you will discover on the game drive in the afternoon.

Day 5 Leisurely drive to the Ngorongoro

In the morning you leave your lodge and head towards Ngorongoro Crater. The vastness of the National Park with its endless savanna becomes visible. Gazelles, antelopes, zebras, hyenas, giraffes, elephants, lions and jackals can be seen. Your driver takes a break to take pictures. The animals share the sunburned dusty plain, which in the rainy seasons turns into an endless green carpet covered with wildflowers as if by magic. Gradually you come closer to the Ngorongoro Crater. It goes uphill and the temperatures cool noticeably. In the afternoon you can relax in the lodge.

Day 6 Full day game drive in Ngorongoro Crater

In the early morning hours, your driver will take you on a game drive into the Ngorongoro Crater. The crater floor is about 600 meters lower than the crater rim which reaches a height of 2,300 meters. Up to 25,000 large animals live here, including elephants and rhinos. On today’s safari in the crater you will experience an indescribable animal world (antelopes, elephants, zebras, gnus, buffaloes, jackals, hyenas, cheetahs, leopards, lions), for which Prof. Grzimek found no words. He liked to call the crater the eighth wonder of the world.

Day 7 Scenic drive to Lake Manyara National Park

Safari day, the sun shines, the folding photo roof of the off-road vehicle is opened for you. The tour through Lake Manyana National Park begins with a drive through the dense forest belt of the park. You will be received loudly by the singing of the monkeys, which give you the first goose bumps from the thicket. Monkeys jump high up in the branches and look down. As soon as they leave the shady thicket, the sunlight dazzles and opens the view over the wide plain. On the game drive you can see elephants, zebras, wildebeests and buffalos. Along the shore flamingos, pelicans and hippos are common.

Day 8 Maramboi-Lodge, Bush-walk

Impressive days lie behind you. Time to process your experiences and relax in the lodge by the pool. The cliffs of the Great African Rift Valley extend on the horizon. Below is Lake Manyara, once said by Nobel Laureate Hemingway to be “the most beautiful in Africa”. With a game guide you go on a walking safari. As soon as you reach the shore of the lake, you become part of the extremely harmonious scenery. In front of the shimmering horizon there is a peaceful shore panorama. Flamingos, pelicans and cormorants are easy to spot. At some distance the giraffes stretch their necks into the air. You can hardly get enough of the many details of the breathtaking scenery.

Day 9 Extended game drive in Tarangire National Park

In the morning you drive to the Tarangire National Park, which lies at the 1200 m average sea level. The river of the same name flows through the middle of the park and serves as a source of water for many immigrated animals from other areas, even in the dry season. Among them are also larger herds of elephants. In total there are over 1000 elephants in the 2600 km² large park. In addition to the marshes in the southern area and the dry savanna with its umbrella acacias, the varied landscape in the park is also characterized by baobabs.

Day 10 Drive from Tarangire to Hatari Lodge

You leave the Tarangire National Park and drive through Tanzania’s second largest city Arusha. The vibrant metropolis does not sleep, the streets are busy and markets dot. After the hustle and bustle in Arusha, enjoy the fresh air of the Arusha National Park and the great view of Mount Meru. The footbridge to the Momella clearing just below the lodge is visited daily by numerous wildlife and birds. The evening ends with a cozy campfire under a starry tent.

Day 11 Time to relax

They spend the day at the lodge. Giraffes among the impressive acacias, waterbucks in the elephant grass and herds of buffalo on the open plains can be observed from the lodge. The scenery with Mount Meru offers a breathtaking panorama that changes color hourly. Game drives or other activities can be booked at the lodge for an extra charge and availability.

Day 12 Half day game drive in Arusha National Park

The Momella Lakes are not far away, popular with flamingos and many other bird species. A rather rare sight is the giraffe crossing of the lakes. In the Ngurdoto Crater, which is in the east of Arusha National Park, black and white monkeys can often be seen. They love the high treetops and are rather shy. The small Serengeti offers regular sightings of buffaloes, zebras, giraffes and waterbucks.
Margarete Trappe lived with her family on the Momella farm. She was a steadfast and strong-willed woman, huntress, wife and landowner. In the book “The White Huntress” you can read her heroic story.

Day 13 Departure Day

Today you leave the Arusha National Park. Our driver will drive you to Kilimanjaro Airport after breakfast. From here you can fly directly back to Europe or book a follow-up program (Zanzibar, Uganda, Rwanda).
